Bulgarian Mission to Antarctica


Route of the 33rd Bulgarian scientific expedition to Antarctica:

The Research Vessel Sets Sail:
A Bulgarian scientific research vessel will embark on a 45-day expedition from Varna, Bulgaria, on November 7, 2024.

Scientists Converge in Sofia:
A team of international scientists will gather in Sofia, Bulgaria, on December 18, 2024, to prepare for the upcoming expedition.

The Emirati Team's Journey:
Ahmed Al Kaabi and Badr Al Ameri, representing the United Arab Emirates, will travel from the UAE to Bulgaria, Italy, and Argentina to join the research vessel at Ushuaia, a port city in southern Argentina.

Arrival at Ushuaia Airport:
The Emirati team will land at Ushuaia Airport on December 21, 2024, and await the arrival of the research vessel. They will then prepare for the voyage to Antarctica.

Antarctic Voyage:
On December 26, 2024, the team will depart from Ushuaia aboard the Bulgarian vessel, embarking on a 3-5 day journey to the Bulgarian research base in Antarctica.

Reaching the Bulgarian Base:
The team is expected to arrive at the Bulgarian base on December 29, 2024, and begin preparations for the scientific expedition.

Antarctic Research:
The team will spend three weeks at the base, collaborating with Bulgarian and international scientists on various research projects.

Departure from the Bulgarian Base:
On January 16, 2025, the team will leave the Bulgarian base and sail to King George Island.

Punta Arenas Airport, Chile:
The team will fly from King George Island to Punta Arenas Airport in Chile on a Portuguese polar program aircraft.

Return to the UAE:
Upon arriving at Punta Arenas Airport on January 20, 2025, the team will prepare to return home to the United Arab Emirates.
